Dr. Erika Creydt advanced from the primary election in the race for Washington State Senate’s 42nd Legislative District, carrying a message focused on affordability, stronger schools, accessible healthcare, support for local businesses, and better-paying jobs.

Quite simply, taxes, labor costs, excessive regulatory obligations, and state-based inflationary pressures are making it too expensive and too difficult for many small businesses to add or even maintain jobs.

I recently visited Alexandra Williams of Williams Farms, she's the Deming Diking Commissioner and president of the Whatcom County Farm Bureau. Alex gave me a tour of her family’s heritage homestead farm, established in 1894, and explained the challenges she’s facing as a Whatcom County farmer.

Her approach to public service has a name she uses often: “Heart. Service. Whatcom.” Three words that, taken together, describe what she believes the job of a state senator ought to be.

What sets Erika Creydt apart is simple: she cares.

While the legislature is bringing in record revenues, they are still not prioritizing education and are even trying to reduce funding for key programs like our Transition to Kindergarten program that is so crucial.

Creydt announced her campaign on Saturday, Jan. 17, for the 42nd Legislative District seat. Running as a Republican, Creydt said in a social media post that her work as a clinical psychologist specializing in youth mental health drove her to run for Senate.
