Dr. Erika Creydt Files for Open 42nd District Senate Seat

Blaine, WA - Psychologist Dr. Erika Creydt (R) officially filed yesterday to run for the Washington State Senate in the 42nd Legislative District, seeking to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Senator Sharon Shewmake (D).

“Families are getting squeezed,” said Creydt. “Groceries, gas, and rent keep rising, but our politicians’ answer is always the same—more taxes, more regulations that drive up costs, and no accountability. That is the wrong answer.”

Creydt said that as Senator she will fight to rein in waste, protect taxpayers, and put working families first—not friends or special interests.

A twice elected School Board Director, Dr. Creydt has earned a reputation for advocating for early learning and strong support for teachers. She said she will bring that same focus to Olympia—working to make life more affordable for Whatcom families.

“I have spent over twenty years sitting with people who were carrying things they don’t say out loud,” said Creydt. “I have sat with kids who were hurting before anyone noticed, and with parents trying to navigate systems that weren’t built to support them. Whatcom County deserves a Senator who actually listens back.”

Dr. Creydt said Olympia has forgotten the people it is supposed to serve, including the district’s youth.

“I grew up in Blaine. I raised my kids here,” said Creydt. “As a mother, psychologist, and elected school board director, I’ve spent my life listening to families, helping them through times of crisis, and fighting for schools that nurture learning and emotional well-being. I’ve done that in on the Blaine School Board, and I’ll do it in Olympia.”

Dr. Creydt holds advanced degrees in psychology which inform her evidence-based approach to policymaking and community engagement. She has also taught at the university level and trained future professionals to make a positive impact in their communities. A lifelong resident of the district, Erika Creydt lives in Blaine with her husband, Jesse, and their children. Her background in mental health, and civic leadership positions her to bring both fresh ideas and experienced advocacy to our State Senate.
