Check My Record, Not the Mailer
By now many of you have seen the mailers, TV ads and texts. They claim my campaign is funded by anti-abortion money, and they call me MAGA. Neither is true. Every dollar my campaign has raised is public record with the Washington Public Disclosure Commission. Anyone can look it up at pdc.wa.gov, and I’d encourage you to. The money my campaign is spending is being used to tell you who I am and how I will serve you– not to harm my opponent.
So who is paying for these attack ads? A political committee called New Direction PAC. It is funded largely by Senate Democrats’ political action fund, and its purpose is to protect the current majority in Olympia.
I understand why they’re doing it. The 42nd District has always voted for the person, not the party. That makes this seat hard for Olympia to control, so they’re trying to scare you instead of persuading you.
Let me be clear about where I stand on rights Washington voters have already settled. Voters protected abortion rights at the ballot box in 1991, and they approved marriage equality at the ballot box in 2012. Both are state law today, and I have no intention of overturning either one. As a clinical psychologist, I have spent my career believing that health care decisions belong between a patient and their provider, and that every family deserves the security of knowing their rights won’t be taken away.
As for the labels, I’m running to represent the people of the 42nd District, not a political party and not anyone in Washington, D.C. My neighbors here vote all kinds of ways, and I respect every one of them for it. What I won’t do is let an Olympia PAC tell you who I am.
Here’s who I am. I’m a fiscal conservative and a small-business owner. I believe the one-party majority in Olympia has gone too far. It has piled on taxes, mandates, and regulations, including a new state income tax this year. That makes it harder to run a farm, keep a business open, or afford to stay in the place you grew up. Washington works best when both parties have a real seat at the table. Right now too many voices, including many of ours in Whatcom County, are being shut out.
So when the next attack text, video or mailer lands, I’d ask you to look past the noise and look at what’s happening in our own community. Look at what it costs to rent or buy a home in Whatcom County. Look at your grocery bill and your property tax statement. Ask whether your kids will be able to build a life here. Those are the problems I’m running to solve. I’ll put my plan in front of anyone who wants to talk about it.
